Mireya Represa, Carlos Álvarez y Antonio Arboledas, campeones de las tres modalidades del Festival de Ajedrez Juan Martínez Sola 2018
Del 1 al 5 de noviembre se han celebrado tres torneos de ajedrez de la quinta edición del Festival de Ajedrez Juan Martínez Sola en Almería.
Primero, la Liga Internacional de 10 jugadores válida para norma de Maestra Internacional de Ajedrez. Los participantes han sido 9 jugadoras (provenientes de España, Polonia, Alemania, Israel y Filipinas), y el campeón de la edición anterior del festival, el almeriense Miguel Álvarez. En esta modalidad, ha resultado flamante vencedora la Maestra FIDE gallega (WFM) Mireya Represa, con 7 puntos de 9, actual Campeona de España Sub-18, consiguiendo además norma de Maestra Internacional de Ajedrez (WIM). Mireya venía del mundial de ajedrez celebrado en Grecia la semana anterior, y se mostró muy satisfecha con el resultado: “con mi entrenador, Jacobo Caselas, he preparado varios torneos internacionales con el objetivo de conseguir norma de maestra internacional desde antes del verano. Sin embargo, me costaba ser regular con jugadoras fuertes. Finalmente, he conseguido la norma en Almería, con lo que estoy muy contenta”. La Maestra FIDE Ana Redondo Benavente, jugadora del club de ajedrez Reverté Minerals, Ana Redondo Benavente, ha finalizado en segundo lugar, a un punto de conseguir norma (6 puntos de 9).

La segunda modalidad es el clásico abierto internacional Sub2200, que ha contado con 74 jugadores, incluyendo ajedrecistas de países como Canadá, Hungría, Rumanía, Turquía y España. El manchego Carlos Álvarez Serrano, del Club de Ajedrez Excalibur, número uno del ranking, ha ganado con autoridad, haciendo 6.5 de 7 puntos.

Finalmente, en la tercera modalidad de partidas relámpago, con 41 jugadores, ha resultado vencedor el jugador del Club de Ajedrez Reverté Minerals Antonio Arboledas con 8.5 puntos de 10, todo un experto en partidas blitz, que año tras año repite pódium en esta modalidad.

El festival se ha celebrado en tres salas de juego. En la primera jornada del jueves 1 de noviembre, se jugó en el salón noble del Círculo Mercantil de Almería, donde numerosos aficionados se acercaron a ver las primeras partidas. De viernes 2 a domingo 4 se jugó en el amplio salón Mojácar del hotel Tryp Indalo, donde el saque de honor de la cuarta ronda de la liga internacional fue realizado por el extremo izquierdo de la UD Almería Luis Rioja, junto al concejal de deportes Juanjo Segura. La última jornada de la liga internacional se jugó en el IES Al Ándalus. Daniel Pastor, profesor del centro, expresó la importancia de “acercar el ajedrez a los alumnos como herramienta educativa. En el centro, ya hemos comenzado con las actividades del programa AulaDJaque”. El jugador almeriense Francisco Galindo impartió partidas simultáneas con los alumnos.

WFM Mireya Represa, Carlos Alvarez and Antonio Arboledas won the three tournaments of the “Juan Martinez Sola Chess Festival 2018”, which have been held from 1st to 5th November in Almeria (Spain).
The first tournament has been an international league (round robin system) of 10 players, valid for Woman International Master norm. The participants have been nine female players (from Spain, Poland, Germany, Israel, and Philippines), and the champion of the previous edition, Miguel Alvarez from Almeria (Spain). In this tournament, the WFM Mireya Represa from Vigo (Spain), currently Spanish U18 Champion has won with 7 out of 9 points and achieved a WIM norm. Ms. Represa, who played a week before the World championship U18 in Greece, expressed her satisfaction with her performance: “I have prepared several international tournaments with my trainer, Jacobo Caselas, since the beginning of last summer, aiming at achieving a WIM norm. However, it was quite difficult for me to keep my best level against strong players. Finally, I have achieved the WIM norm in Almeria, so I am very happy.” The WFM Ana Redondo Benavente, a player of the Reverté Minerals chess club (Spain), ended up in the second place, almost getting another WIM norm with 6 out of 9 points.
In the beginning of the fourth round, a first move ceremony was made by the left striker of the UD Almeria football team, Luis Rioja, along with the sports councilor of the Almeria city hall, Mr. Juanjo Segura.
The second tournament has been the traditional open U2200 FIDE rating, with 74 chess players from Canada, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, and Spain. The Spanish player Carlos Alvarez, from the Excalibur chess club (Spain) and first in the initial ranking, has won being the only one scoring 6.5 out of 9 points.
Finally, the third tournament consisted of blitz games, and had 42 chess players. The winner has been Antonio Arboledas, from the Reverté Minerals chess club, scoring 8.5 points out of 10 games. Mr. Arboledas has proved to be an expert in blitz games, given that year after year he is in the podium of the blitz tournament.
The last day, a simul was given by Francisco Galindo in the IES Al Ándalus. Daniel Pastor, a teacher of that high school, expressed the importance of introducing chess to young students as an educative tool: “In our high school, we have already started this type of activities with the ‘AulaDjaque’ program”.
